16th CLASS - ENVIRONMENTAL LES I

Tuesday, January 12, 2010:
1) We took a break from the Graffiti LES while our project materials come in and we scheduled the project time-period within the other classes.
2) You had the choice of working on two projects:
- What is your dream home? Create a visual of it from the outside and a floor plan of the inside. The catch is that it must communicate how it is environmentally friendly and draw on our natural resources.
- Design a clothing line that is environmentally friendly and communicates how the materials, and processing is globally conscious.
3) We worked in the VCN room and began watching Home for inspiration.

Can you please watch up to around 55:00:00. This is optional, but may help you come up with ideas :)

You have until this Wednesday to get your plan into me. It must be detailed. It must include the section of the stairwell you wish to use. It also must include the purpose of your piece (linking graffiti elements, mural aspects, and student identity together).

9TH CLASS - GRAFFITI LES VIIII

Today:
1) You were given some time to finish up your individual identity piece using graffiti and different images and symbols.
2) You chose your crew (team of 5 in total). You presented your identity piece to everyone.
3) You then discussed, if you were creating a mural only with your crew, how you would put all of your ideas together. You chose a speaker.
4) Each crew presented all individual pieces and the speaker discussed the ideas to the rest of the crews (as a class).
5) As a class, you were asked what ideas would work best.
No one missed class! Way to be here!
Next class Thursday, November 12 (Day 9): Think about all the pros and cons for all of the ideas discussed and be ready to discuss it please.

1) You received a letter from a patron regarding a mural focusing on identity and student life.
2) We brainstormed what "identity" is... you came up with in-depth ideas about all the things/places/people influencing who you are.
3) Using all forms of graffiti and images, you started visualizing the ideas brainstormed focusing on YOU.

7TH CLASS - GRAFFITI LES VII - EVALUATIONS & POLITICAL/MESSAGE MURALS

1) You received evaluations and organized your processfolios.
2) We went to the computer lab and continued discussion about different murals as a class and in small groups. Your interpretations of messages were impressive!

Next class Thursday, October 29 (Day 9): Be prepared to discuss why you think we spent the last 2 classes discussing what we did. How does it relate to our visit to rue Cartier? What can those experiences show us about creating murals as a group? Try coming up with 5 solid ideas.

6TH CLASS - GRAFFITI LES VI - DISCUSSING A MURAL IN THE SCHOOL AND GRAFFITI ARTISTS ON THE WEB

1) We discussed as a class the posibility of creating a graffiti mural in the school.
2) We joined the other class and brought our ideas together.

5TH CLASS - GRAFFITI LES V - PROJECT APPRECIATIONS AND TECHNO-GRAFFITI

Today:
1) The Cartier Project appreications were collected.
2) You had a demonstration of one of the best free online graffiti programs available: Graffiti Creator.
3) You created your own "throw up" graffiti using this technology and handed it in at the end of class.
If you missed class: Click on the link above to create your own "throw up" and e-mail or hand it in to me BEFORE next class please.
Before next class Thursday, October 15 (Day 9): It's a long time away so keep experimenting with the different types of "throw ups" you can create. Can you find any other online free programs? Have a great long weekend!

4TH CLASS - GRAFFITI LES IV - FIELD TRIP TO CARTIER

Today:
1) You handed in your homework assignment experimenting with a different graffiti technique than what you handed in at the end of last class.
2) We discussed the Cartier Graffiti Project.
3) We discussed the history and making of la Murale: parole aux jeunes. See me for the handout as I am not able to link it here.
4) We walked to the mural to appreciate it live and took pictures.
5) We came back to QHS ready for your next class. I hope today was worthwhile to give you some examples of different techniques.

3RD CLASS - GRAFFITI LES III

2ND CLASS - GRAFFITI LES II

Today:
1) We began the Graffiti LES II by learning about graffiti history and understanding the fine line between creating art versus vandalism. You showed your professional judgement as artists through the ideas you came up with in the Code of Ethics for Graffiti you each wrote. We also focused on 6 different forms of modern graffiti through many pics and some videos. Credit to wikipedia, googlepics, and youtube.
2) You had an opportunity to reflect on your assignment from last class. With all the new techniques you saw today, what would you like to now experiment with?
If you missed class: Download the Graffiti LES PowerPoint (credit to wikipedia).
Next class September 21 (Day 4): All materials are due. Take a good hour to experiment with the techniques you saw (the style to focus on is your choice). Be ready to show and discuss it next class. Have a good weekend and see you next Monday!

1ST CLASS - COURSE INTRODUCTION

Welcome back for those of you returning and welcome to QHS to those who are new!
Today we: Discussed the course and began our Graffiti LES. You all brainstormed excellent ideas on what you already know about this style of art. You did well completing your first assignment with the 30 minutes given.
If you missed class: Only using a pencil, focusing on lines, shades, and shapes, you need to time yourself for 30 minutes and draw what you think graffiti is. (On a white printer paper.) Stop after 30 minutes. It is due at the beginning of next class.
Next class Monday, September 14 (Day 9): I trust you will have your agendas, course outlines signed, and course materials labelled in a shoe box or container when I check at the beginning of class. If you are having challenges getting the materials, see me this coming week.
I hope you have a relaxing long weekend with Monday off, and can soak up lots of sun!
